Belgard Backyard Design Phase I

Design Consult, Belgard Rooms Design Studio and Product Choice

Y'all have heard us talk about Belgard, the hardscape and outdoor living company, more than once around here. That's because we've had the privilege of touring their outdoor paver/hardscape product first-hand on several occasions (most notably as a part of their HGTV Dream Home Giveaway collaborations!) and have been blown away each time.

After several years of drooling over Belgard's outdoor products, we finally decided it was time to try these pieces out for ourselves—and boy, were we impressed! And boy, did we need them…here’s a few shots of our backyard when we bought the house (notice how the sharp slope made the much of the backyard unusable.

However, with a few retaining walls and new turf, we were able to regain some much needed space by creating three separate levels. Although we had made a lot of progress to gain these functional areas, it was still just an empty canvas (or blank slate, if you will ;).

At this point, we had to bring in the outdoor pros—Belgard. The process began with a design consultation and details about our space and specific style. With Belgard Rooms planner, this was a cinch! We simply snapped a few pictures of our backyard, drew a quick sketch with dimensions, and in no time, Belgard had produced a number of digital renderings of how our future space could look. On finding that Blank Slate "look”, we chose one of Belgard’s newest offerings, the modern and modular Artforms product—the industry’s first complete modular concrete panel system, featuring a bolt together stainless system (read more about it HERE). Watching the vision come to life was such a fun part of the process, and we were so impressed with how our backyard might look.

Due to our budget, we decided to break up the two components of the original design—the upper level and the lower level (the fire pit area)—and simply start with the first level of our backyard space where the grill and dining area are. It was a bummer to have to wait, but all things in due time, right? Meh…

After the final design was approved by all, it was time to get to work. The team at Belgard got us in touch with their local installers, and before we knew it, a crew was in the back yard measuring and prepping. With the location, product and design layout finalized, it was time for the real fun begin!
